Plant Aerials
1920's
This is the original plant after about 20 years of operations. Sitting on approximately 23 acres of land, producing kettle soaps--Ivory, Lenox, and White Water bar soaps.
Major facilities: Kettle House, Glycerine House, Lye House, Silicate House, Framing Houses for Packing and Warehousing, Boiler House, Reservoir, and Coal Piles.
1930's
Appearance of Dreft and Duz towers signal beginning of synthetic granules. North side has not yet been purchased. The white building in the northeast corner is a mill (not P&G).
1949
Making Synthetic Granules (MSG) was built in approximately 1947. The Hydrolyzer operation was built in 1948, west of the Kettle House, and marks the beginning of the end of kettle-made bar soaps.
1950's
The land north of the original site was purchased and brought the total property to 64 acres. Sodium Reduction Alcohol Process was built to support the fast growing synthetic granules market.
1966
The plant at the peak of operations and enrollment. Synthetic granules, bar soaps, hydrolyzer, and Building 10 warehouse in full operation. Tallow alcohol and amine production in the Alcohol plant . OG (Amines) and Basic (AGS) departments operating. Clorox was being produced, packaged, and shipped in northesat corner of the plant.
1970
The North Shop (Building 98) has been constructed. The Synthetic Granules operation has expanded.
1974
Dishwashing liquids (LDL) are now made in MSL (Building 20). The north dressing room (Building 100) has been constructed. The Chlorox building has been site-cleared and the new warehouse (Building 30) has been constructed.
1987
New Kansas Avenue bridge construction has begun. Site clearance of synthetic granules facilities has begun. Drop lot north of Building 30 has been established.
